Spiritual Practice: Partner Up for Prayer

Partner Up for Prayer

Prayer-PartnersThis spiritual practice is designed to allow you to gain familiarity with the 5-Step Prayer Process:

  • Relaxation
  • Concentration
  • Meditation
  • Realization
  • Appreciation

Carefully choose someone of like mind and consciousness, and invite that person to be your Prayer Partner for a specific period of time (a week, a month, etc.).

Schedule a specific time on a regular basis to practice this technique. It could be daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on your schedules and the timeframe of the practice.

At your scheduled time, you get together either face-to-face or by phone or Skype (no texting for this particular activity!).

During your time together, follow this procedure:

  • Settle in, breathe, and relax.
  • Review the 5-step Prayer Process.
  • Taking turns, each of you then shares a specific concern, issue, or simple prayer focus.
  • The other individual then prays with their partner, using the 5-step process as a guide.

After the agreed-upon timeframe, yo can decide to either continue this practice together, or you may choose to find a new partner, and go through this activity again.

The more you practice, the more comfortable you become praying with others — and you will discover what a powerful, transformative practice this is.
